Updated editing

With my new footage I have made some amendments to the opening sequence of my video. I need to make some changes to the editing where Leah is throwing books in the bedroom as the effect is a bit too jumpy. However, I am pleased with the outcome of the recent filming.

First draft: CD cover

This my first draft for one of the ancillary texts, my CD cover. I chose to use an image which I took whilst shooting on Monday for the front cover which I thought would link well to the music video. In order for the cover to look as if it is part of the pop punk/metalcore genre, I adjusted the threshold of each image on Photoshop to gain the silhouette effect. By doing this, I feel that this makes the cover unique and individual just like other CD covers of this genre. I thought if I used the image as it is, there is a risk that the target audience may think that it belongs to a mainstream genre. I have used the same font style of which I used on the magazine advertisement so a house style for the products was developed. This helps create cohesion between each of the products. I have also chosen to work in a black, white and red colour scheme as  I feel that these colours have connotations of the emotions and feelings represented in both the track and the music video.  For example, these connotations being death and sadness for the colour black, connotations of passion, romance and anger for the colour red and connotations of hope and peace for the colour white.

In order to improve the CD cover for a second draft, I could add suitable text for the inside left part of the cover as this is often a common feature of CD covers within the pop punk genre. The text often consists of thanks from the members of the band and the names of the people who were involved in the production of the single, I could also add more of a design to the inside right of the cover and inside left to make it more interesting and appealing for the target audience to look at. I used a print screen of my existing first draft video to gain the images for for the back and inside left of the cover. Therefore, for future drafts I could take my own images in order to improve the quality of the photograph.

Mock up for CD cover

Shooting Diary - Monday 3rd February

Today, I shot the living room scene again. In order to do this, I made some adjustments to the lighting so the shot was not too dark and so the camera noise was reduced. Initially, I had a problem when the TV was on and every time the picture changed on the TV the overall lighting in the room would change, therefore altering the focus. To overcome this problem, I turned the TV off and asked both Leah and Jordan to pretend there was something on the screen when they were doing the scene.

Whilst shooting the living room scene I took some pictures which I could use for my ancillary texts. These pictures were close up, two shots which I could use to link the ancillary texts to my music video.

I also gained some more shots for the boxing scene. However, due to lack of time I was unable to spend as much time and attention on these shots. I have not yet looked at this footage on the editing suite but I am hoping the shots I took will be suitable to add to my video. I also added long shot and close up shot where Leah is stood watching Jordan whilst he is using the punch bag. In the editing suite I plan to fade her out to show that she is no longer there and Jordan can't see her, therefore creating the illusion of a ghost.

Here are some of the photos that I took during the shoot which I could possibly use for my ancillary texts.

Rough draft for magazine advertisement

This is my first draft for one of the ancillary texts, my magazine advertisement. I have used a print screen image of my YouTube video for the main image which I think captures a part of the couple's relationship which is represented in the video. The image creates a romantic theme for the advertisement and automatically suggests that the music video which goes with the track focuses on a relationship between a young couple. For a second draft, I could use some of my own photographs which I will take whilst shooting a part of the music video. Therefore, the overall quality of the image will be improved. I have chosen to put the text in upper case as I found out from my research into magazine advertisements the text is always only upper case. This is done so  the text is clear for a member of the target audience to read. I used Blink 182's magazine advertisement as a guide in creating a first draft for my own product as I liked the layout of that particular advert. I have conformed to the common conventions of a magazine advertisement by including: the track name, the album name, release date and the band's website address. However, I have also included the social media icons to indicate that the band have a page on these websites. This is extra marketing material for the band and is becoming more apparent in many more existing magazine advertisements. In order to improve this draft for a second draft I think I should use Photoshop to show the genre more clearly. I could do this by making adjustments to the image, colour scheme or text.
